Thanks for the question Laura!

I completed a degree in earth based environmental science and zoology at UWA where during the lab and field work, I picked up some skills that are used in Enviro Tech positions. My personal experience is that when you get into the mining industry as an enviro, you will always begin your training at a technician level as that is the base knowledge you need to work up in the future.

I would recommend getting your hands dirty with some field work, volunteering or even diving headfirst into going for a technician role! There may also be opportunities available at TAFE or potentially Uni where you can jump into units that have more field exposure - The units which gave me the most were hydrology and land use rehabilitation (but that seems like a lifetime ago now!)
